The workbook provides the “mental training gym” where you can develop and strengthen your “psychological muscles.” Being psychologically skilled, just as you are physically skilled, involves strengthening 30 different muscles. This will only occur by working your muscles to create adaptation (strengthening). Every chapter in the workbook includes a long list of questions that will take your understanding of the book to a deeper level. The introduction describes in detail how to develop a group of other athletes to work through the workbook together. This can allow for the greatest return on investment. You can also work through the workbook on your own and benefit immensely. The workbook is meant to ignite your interest, curiosity and understanding of the mental side of your game. A level where you are as proficient psychologically as you are physically is possible! Become a “student of the mental game.” The mental game does not have to be so elusive. Coaches and athletes crave consistency. Consistency during training and competition is a result of having the ability to achieve and maintain a zone-like state of mind. This is within your conscious control. The author’s hope is that you “train” with the workbook once a year to maintain your psychological fitness. An ultimate goal is that you learn to inspire others to develop a gold medal mind as well.
