The Sum of All Sorrow is a portrait of America’s Camelot, a revolutionary era told through the experiences and reactions of young women and men. They challenge norms and destiny in search of new meaning making conflicts inevitable. Their story begins in September of 1962 as the nation is on the brink of nuclear holocaust. The story closes about the same time President Kennedy is gunned down in Dallas, TX. When asked, “How will you live your life, so that your life is meaningful?” Katie answers, “I don’t know, but I want to know.” Katie McLaren has all the gifts a girl needs to create any future she chooses. She has an ambitious plan; however, that plan is altered when she meets a boy, Michael Hawkins. She’s surprised to learn that with Michael optimism and human potential become even greater. As they mature, complex events accumulate and threaten their existence. Ironically, their strength and bond mutates and leads them toward a climax as shocking as the Kennedy assassination itself.
