
Excerpt from The Speech of the Earl of Mulgrave, &C. &C. &CWe do indeed gratefully and respectfully thank his Lordship for the justice which, as abolitionists, he has done ourselves but yet more grateful do we feel for the manliness and the liberality with which he has done justice to the Negro character, and for the powerful assistance which he has thereby given to the cause of emancipation throughout the world. After the usual toasts had been given, Mr. Buxton requested his Lordship to communicate to the company the results Of his colonial experience on the question Of emancipation, when he spoke as follows, under frequent interruptions of acclamatory applause, which for more convenient reading we have omitted.
