If we knew there are only fifteen steps to be delivered from death, we would want to know what they are. Here is our chance to discover the answer. And it is presented by God in such a compelling way. These are real life stories and real life experiences. The people who penned these words know what life is about and how we can be trapped. This is the way Hezekiah saw it. He selected fifteen Psalms that told this story and grouped them, calling them “The Songs of the degrees.” He was saved out of death and given a new opportunity of life to finish his work. His life story is the mother of all parables, for we see in his deliverance the freedom offered to all. These songs are just fifteen in one hundred and fifty, but they display the treasure locked up in the extraordinary book called the Psalms. If you want to sing, then become familiar with the Psalms, and you will have a sound mind. We know what singing is about. Children and young people get the best of it, and the older ones forget to do it. Singing and making melody in our heart will address most of our needs. It is a state of mind.
