The vision of Zion, the Peaceable Kingdom, was at the heart of the 19th Century movement that gave birth to Community of Christ. Unfortunately, in attempts to build Zionic communities on the American frontier, church members repeatedly came into conflict with their neighbors, leading ultimately to the murder of the church's founder and the scattering of the movement. Learning from these initial failures, the Reorganized church to "Peace" as its motto as members sought harmonious coexistence with former adversaries. As Community of Christ's journey continues into the 21st Century, the church is committed to Christ's mission of peace for the world.
