This is not a book about Marriage although it talks a lot about Marriage. It is a book about relationships and how the phases and seasons of human relationships speak about the phases and seasons of a relationship with God. Our relationship with God is not something that goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds and says there for life, it is a relationship with a beginning, a middle and an end, a journey of discovery and commitment, and all the "better, worse, richer, poorer, sickness and health" of the wedding vows. Looking at all of these seasons, the book starts at the moment of discovery and leads through the moment of parting and includes all points on the route between them, seeing how we can learn from human experience and apply it to our relationship with God, as individuals and as a Church. It is not a "fix it" or a "self-help" book but a reflection on the authors own relationships and those he has observed and aims to offer encouragement to those who may feel that their own relationship with God is lacking in some way - not to allow them an excuse to be apathetic and acept what is less than best, but to be realistic about what a relationship is about. And, ultimately, to grow into a deeper and more profound relationship with God.
