Your body seeks to maintain a balance in a number of different factors. Your temperature is an example of one such balance. Your body tries to maintain a temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Variances of only a few degrees above or below can result in serious health challenges, but there is one balance that is more crucial than any other which is the balance between acids and alkaline.Your body will go to great measures to maintain slightly its alkaline level especially in the blood. Over acidification of the body sets you up for sickness. In the slightly alkaline environment of a heathy body, germs cannot thrive and therefore cannot cause problems. However, an acidic environment is exactly what these germs are looking for where they can thrive and cause illness.Additionally, as the body changes from alkaline to acidic, other organisms start causing problems. Your body naturally has some microorganisms present in it and many are necessary for life functions. Normally your body can keep those microorganisms in check, but when you lose your balance these microorganisms can start causing problems. The relationship between acids and alkaline is quantified by a pH measurement. Based on a scale of one to fourteen, with seven being neutral, the pH measures the acidic or alkaline level. When acid and alkaline meet in certain ratios, they neutralize each other. Your body actually seeks to maintain a pH level of 7.365, which is slightly alkaline. With the exception of certain body systems, specifically the stomach and colon, your body will try to maintain that pH level.
