"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when [he and the Skin Horse] were lying side by side … before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?""Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."In a charming, unpretentious style reminiscent of Beatrix Potter, Margery Williams delights new generations of youngsters with this poignant classic about a shabby toy bunny and the little boy who loves him. The tale tells of the velveteen rabbit's happiness as he becomes the boy's favorite plaything, then strikes a sadder note as the worn-out toy is discarded after the boy's bout with scarlet fever. But joy returns as the bunny begins a new life with the help of a generous fairy.A delight to read or listen to, this enchanting tale takes on new dimensions of enjoyment as youngsters are invited to color captivating, ready-to-color illustrations by Thea Kliros of the threadbare rabbit, his loving and kind-hearted friend, the magic fairy of the nursery, and a host of other characters.

A collection of seven stories about the goings-on in the shops that line a particular street in a country village.
An animal story with a very original plot. A farmer has been taken ill and his animals decide to shift for themselves at the farm, rather than separate and visit the neighbors. Then the S.P.C.A. interferes, and a neighbor's grandchild puts her oar in and rescues them. Although the animals are humanized to some extent, it it is not in any sense the "bedtime story" type of thing, but seems very natural and amusing and just as it should be.

Treasured for generations, this is one of the most classic and beloved children's stories of all time reworked with native fairies, scary zombies and transforming magic. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams (1922) is seamlessly retold by A.R. Jung in this enchanting tale about blossoming self esteem. A toy rabbit comes to life through the love of a child. In addition to her stylistic adaptations, Jung reworked the story line of the animated film-The First Easter Rabbit (1976) narrated by Burl Ives, but kept the premise that this story explains the Easter Bunny’s origin. This is the story of the Easter Bunny's childhood. "Nursery magic is very strange and wonderful, and only those playthings that are old, wise and experienced like the Unicorn Rocking Horse understand all about it." Like the Unicorn, Jung understands how toys-and people-become real through the wisdom and experience of both giving and receiving love. A modern classic written to inspire even the most reluctant readers- both boys and girls alike!
