In this powerful guide to companywide success, the author of Start Finishing reveals how to improve any team’s habits in a way that leads to bottom line results while also boosting belonging, morale, and engagement. We typically work most directly with a small group of no more than 10 people, and in that team, we have a high degree of influence. Charlie Gilkey, an internationally known thought leader on productivity, planning, strategy, and leadership for creative people, explains how changing our team's habits can change our company's culture since that culture is always just an aggregation of its various teams' work habits. We all know how important habits are for personal effectiveness, success, and happiness. We can apply many of the same principles and insights about personal habits to our teams. When we do, not only do we accrue the personal benefits for ourselves, but we accrue them with and for our team. If small habit changes lead to powerful results for individuals, imagine what it can do for teams. Focusing on improving how people work together at the team level means there's no need for a top‑down initiative or sign‑off by the higher‑ups to start making our working lives better. How a team schedules its meetings is a team habit, as is whether and how they share agendas before the meeting. How teammates loop others into emails or Slack messages is a team habit, as is whether they have the practice of cc'ing or group‑bombing everyone to make sure they cover their bases. How teammates communicate about being uninterruptible, or that they are never uninterruptible, are team habits. These team habits explain how we can like the people we're working with and feel like we want the same things yet find ourselves regularly flummoxed about how hard it is to work with them. Team Habits offers a Team Habits Quiz, allowing readers to discover the patterns and areas for improvement on their business team. Gilkey offers tips on Communication (“What needs to be communicated NOW versus what can wait”), Meetings (“The ultimate question to determine whether your meeting was worth it”), Belonging (“Why getting your teammate coffee isn’t about the coffee”), and much more.
Learn which steps to take at the right time to grow your small business. Here's the deal: small businesses - including microbusinesses - have a lifecycle that's different than the lifecycles of other kinds of businesses. If you're a small business owner, you probably started your business because there was some particular product you wanted to build or service you wanted to provide and you've probably figured out that having a successful small business takes more than having a great product or great service. Growing a small business requires knowing which steps to take at the right time; if you take those steps out of order and you can waste a lot of time, money, and momentum. There are five stages to the small business lifecycle, each of which have different strengths, challenges, inconvenient truths, and ways forward. This guide shows you what each of those stages are and will show you where to focus your resources so you can grow your business. If you've been thinking about starting your own business, it'll help you figure where to start and get a foothold in a market. While there are some differences in starting an online business versus starting a traditional small businesses, both of them share the same business lifecycle. And if you've been in business for a while, you'll have a better gauge to evaluate where you are and what you need to do next. If you're growing fast and want to keep growing, it'll show you how to do it strategically. If you're stuck and don't know what to do, it'll show you what you have to get in place to get unstuck. Here are some specific topics we'll cover:Questions to ask before you start your own small businessHow to get a foothold in the market and why you should be marketing fewer things to fewer audiencesWhy some "successful" products and services will cause you to get stuck and lose momentumWhere your small businesses might get stuck and what four things must be in place to get it going and growing againHow not to break a successful, scalable small business once you've got it thereWhile this guide won't give you a specific business strategy, it'll show you what needs to be done so you can determine the right strategy for your business. This guide is succinct and very accessible; you don't need another longer, hard-to-understand business book. No prior business education or experience is required to understand it, though prior education and experience will give you a deeper understanding of the insights in this book. You've got a business to grow, and this book is written to get you realigned, focused, and gaining momentum.

What if One Small Shift Could Make You Five Times As Productive, This Week?Without having to learn anything, using all the resources you already have? So, we both know that you don’t need another system, another hack or another method. What you probably need is a different approach (but even we can’t tell you that, because we’re not you… you have to decide that yourself). The truth is, you’ve tried a lot of things to help you do more of what matters. And maybe some of them have worked for a little while. But you still would like to improve some things. You don’t need another “50 ways to be more motivated” … you need a way to transform the way you show up, that allows you to use all of the powerful resources you already have.Because we know that you already have everything you need. Right now. We’re going to help you become more productive than you ever thought was possible. But we’re not going to give you anything you don’t already possess. All you really need to do is to tap into the awesome power that’s already within you. Yes, it is within you, even if you’re not sure it is, or you’ve forgotten it.What you’ll get from The Dojo won’t replace or complete any of the tools or systems that you already use, but what it will do is allow you to use them more mindfully and effectively. It’s kind of like how learning better coordination improves your use of tools you use with your hands. If there is a master habit, or master key, that unlocks the door to making all the other habits work, that is what we’d most like to show you. And hopefully, if you put the tools we’re going to give you into practice, that is what you’ll find.Be willing to be surprised by how effective you can be, with these new insights you’re about to learn.
